The hubby is a big fan of a whiskey sour. Just a couple of fingers of bourbon (Maker’s Mark is the favorite around here), a bit of lemon juice, and some simple syrup, mixed right in the glass with ice. Easy-peasy.
Sometimes, though, you need something a little fancier. In that case, you just need to kick your go-to drink up a notch. Inspired by the sublime bourbon sour he enjoyed (and I sampled) at drink.well on our most recent date night, I decided to whip up a whiskey sour with a twist. The secret ingredient (a standard in many old-school drinks) adds a little body, creaminess, and frothiness. What is it? An egg white!
I know it may sound weird, but I can’t even tell you what a difference it makes in this uber-simple drink. In the hubby’s words, “That very well may be the best cocktail you’ve ever made.” Try it!
Bourbon Sour
2 oz bourbon
1 oz lemon juice
1 oz simple syrup
one egg white
Combine all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously — put some muscle into it so that egg white gets nice and frothy! Strain into a cocktail glass.

Mmm, I like mixing Maker’s Mark, lemon juice, and maple syrup. Egg whites in drinks always freak me out a little bit, but I bet this is tasty!
Ooh, that sounds delicious! Kind of a nice fall twist. I get the egg white ick factor, but man, it really does take cocktails to another level!

Looks fabulous! I have to admit I’ve never had one of these before. OMG! We haven’t had a date night in so long. I think I’m due a fancy drink and date night:)

Time to try it out! It’s delicious and couldn’t be simpler. Date nights are de rigueur around here once a month — otherwise we’d never find the time to go!

I can guess that it has to do with an impact on both the texture AND the taste. And it sounds delicious.

Alex loves whiskey sours so I will definitely be trying this one. You have inspired me to buy some burbon and we are currently infusing part of it with the coffee beans.
Woo hoo! Let me know what you think. You are going to flip over the coffee bourbon — it’s definitely worth the wait!
