This week’s cocktail is no fun at all, sad to say. It is, however, a great soothing sipper if you’re suffering from a cold or one of the countless other miserable-yet-minor ailments that seem to crop up every fall around this time.
In case you hadn’t guessed, I’m just getting over a cold. Fun times. My classic soother is a mug of hot water spiked with honey and lemon (which I sipped all day long while I was sick), paired with just the right measure of DayQuil (or NyQuil, depending on the time). The other night, though, going on Day 3 and still dragging, I needed a little something more, so I decided to mix up a hot toddy.
It was warm, soothing, and delicious. So, even if it didn’t quite cure what ailed me, it at least helped to make the evening a little cozier. Here’s hoping you don’t need one anytime soon!
- 1 tsp honey
- 2 oz boiling water
- 1½ oz whiskey
- 3 whole cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 slice of lemon
- pinch of nutmeg
- Mix the honey, boiling water, and whiskey in a mug, and spice with the cloves and stir with the cinnamon stick.
- Allow to steep for 5 minutes, and then sprinkle with nutmeg.
