It’s January, and that means peak grapefruit season! Lucky us, we’re members of a CSA that brings us citrus at this time of year, and included in our last couple of boxes have been some of the most beautiful, juicy, red grapefruits I’ve ever seen.
I love a good grapefruit half for breakfast, but with such bounty, how could I resist juicing a couple of these beauties and using them in a cocktail? While the Freshly Pressed is still my favorite use for grapefruit, I do love this fresh take on my old favorite, the Mexican Martini.
- 4 oz Sauza Conmemorativo or other high-quality tequila
- 2 oz Grand Marnier
- juice of ½ grapefruit (about 3 oz)
- juice of one lime (about 1 oz)
- 1 oz light agave nectar
- 1 oz warm water
- Whisk the agave nectar and the warm water in a small bowl and set aside.
- Combine all other ingredients in a large shaker filled with ice, then add the diluted agave nectar.
- Shake and strain into a salt-rimmed cocktail glass. Enjoy!

Oooh, I will have to give this a try! I haven’t used grapefruits in many things, but I am always eager to try a new recipe…especially when that recipe involves tequila.

You can’t go wrong with tequila.
Well, you can… but it’ll probably still taste good!

I just picked up a big bag of grapefruit and was wondering how I was going to use them all! Now I have the perfect solution!

Those grapefruit look absolutely amazing! A grapefruit sorbet would also be delicious- but I might only be saying that because it’s over 100 degrees where I am currently.

Oh my goodness! I can hardly entertain the idea of sorbet, as it has been sleeting all day and I have an urge to curl up under a blanket in front of the fire. But then again, it is supposed to be in the 70s next week, so we’ll see then!
That looks delicious. The grapefruit would give it the perfect tart punch.
It really does! Oh, I do love grapefruit season…

Sounds like a margarita to me. But call it whatever you want. I’ll have two!

It has more tequila. Game, set, match.
