Black Rene

Maraschino liqueur, hard as it was to find, is fast becoming one of my favorite cocktail ingredients. When I saw this recipe for the pre-Prohibition Era cocktail the Black Rene over at Cocktail Virgin Slut, I was immediately on board.

Black Rene

I like that it mixes a traditional winter-y spirit (brandy) with a summery one (rum) — how very appropriate for spring. And of course I couldn’t resist the Meyer lemons. Cheers!

  1. I love maraschino liqueur and have found sound really lovely recipes for the original Aviator (gorgeous and very retro if you don’t disturb the the creme de violette in the bottom of the glass) http://www.alpenz.com/images/poftfolio/violettefacts.htm Also, The Lux is a delicious cocktail if you can find Averna (amaro): http://www.kindredcocktails.com/cocktail/the-lux

    • How funny that you mention this! We just recently got our hands on some Creme Yvette (like creme de violette, but with a vanilla note) and tried the Aviation. I’ll have a post on it soon. What a great idea about letting the liqueur be at the bottom of the glass — I bet that’s gorgeous!
