Gourmet Veggie Mama

About

I’m a recovering lawyer-turned-freelance writer and editor, aspiring domestic goddess, and stay-at-home mom to a spunky, demanding and truly awesome 2-year-old.

I love all things food and drink, and I’ve rediscovered a love for cooking now that I’m not spending most of my days locked in the office, but I often have to improvise, since having the ankle-biter around makes it more challenging! I’m a vegetarian, a runner (currently training for my second marathon), and a recent re-transplant from Northern California back home to Austin, Texas, which is a very different (and much foodie-friendlier) city than I left 8 years ago. I have a tendency to take on a lot more than I can handle, so you may spot me running around town like a crazy person looking for pieces of my child’s DIY Halloween costume or maybe a wheel of my favorite local goat cheese that I just have to have for tonight’s dinner.

All the images on this site are mine unless otherwise noted, and all recipes are credited to their source(s), or are otherwise my own creations. If you’re looking for legal advice or a professional chef, you are barking up the wrong tree. I am also not a parenting expert (duh, who is?) and I like to take things as they come.

As for my tagline (“A blog about having it all, really”), yes, it is sarcastic, which you will realize if you’ve known me for more than five minutes or so. I have no illusions about “having it all.” This is a reference to a 30 Rock episode, in which the girlfriend of Liz Lemon’s love interest envisions that, in 5 years, she will be married with kids and still working at a family-friendly job, “just, having it all, really.”

I am always interested in new writing opportunities (online, print, I do it all!), so please reach out if you’d like to work with me. I am also a firm believer that there are no stupid questions, so if something about one of my recipes doesn’t make sense to you, or if you’d like to chat more about something I’ve written, please feel free to leave me a comment or drop me a line. You can email me at gourmetvegmama@gmail.com, follow @gourmetvegmama on Twitter, find me on Facebook or check out my new Google+ page.

Usually when I find a recipe on a food blog I just use it and never look further at the blog or visit it again…but I love what you’ve got going on and Gourmet Veggie Mama is now officially bookmarked on my browser! I have chard enchiladas in my oven now, and hope to incorporate more of your recipes into my kitchen. Thanks! :)
